How long can a j-tube be in place before u have to change it?

i've had a j-tube for 18 years but i've had the same one in for about 6 years,its still works good, just don't know if its safe to keep it in for so long. its just to painful for me when its changed so i don't. can someone help me? thanks!How long can a j-tube be in place before u have to change it?
As far as I know they can be left in for years and are usually only replaced when they become clogged. You should contact your doctor if you have any concerns.
