Help me with algebra, its super important?

Two ships are sailing in the fog and are being monitored by tracing equipment. As they come into the observer's rectangular radar screen, one ship, the Rusty Tu, is at a point 900 mm to the right of the bottom left corner of the radar screen along the lower edge. The other ship, the Bucket of Bolts, is located at a point 100 mm above the lower left corner of that screen. One minute later, both ships' positions have changed. The rusty Tube has moved to a position on the screen 3 mm left and 2 mm above its previous position on the radar screen. Meanwhile, the Bucket of Bolts has moved to a position 4 mm right and 1 mm above its previous location on that screen.

Assume that both ships continue to move at a constant speed on their respective linear courses. Using graphs and equations find out if the two ship will collide.

How do i graph it on the computer? what do i need?!?!

and how do you do the work? i'm confused help me PLEASE

why and how do i make it equal each other?Help me with algebra, its super important?
Rusty Tube moves from (900,0) to (900-3,0+2) in 1 minute.

Bucket of Bolts moves from (0,100) to (0+4, 100+1) in 1 minute.

Putting them in slope intercept form:

Rusty Tube:

m = rise/run = 2/(-3) = -2/3

y - y0 = m(x - x0)

y - 0 = (-2/3)(x - 900)

y = (-2/3)x + 600

Bucket of Bolts:

m = rise/run = 1/4

y - y0 = m(x - x0)

y - 100 = (1/4)(x - 0)

y - 100 = (1/4)x

y = (1/4)x + 100

Determine where the two lines intersect:

(-2/3)x + 600 = (1/4)x + 100

600 - 100 = (1/4)x + (2/3)x

500 = (11/12)x

6000 = (11)x

6000/11 = x

x = 545.454545

Solving for y value of intersection point:

y = (-2/3)x + 600

y = (-2/3)(6000/11) + 600

y = 236.363636

Therefore, the intersection point is:

(545.454545, 236.363636)

But do the ships actually collide?

The Rusty Tube reaches this point in:

(900-545.454545)/3 = 118.181818 minutes

The Bucket of bolts reaches the intersection point in:

(545.454545)/4 = 136.363636 minutes

Therefore, they will NOT collide.

To verify, make the same calculation using the Y coordinates:

Rusty Tube: 236.363636/2 = 118.181818 minutes

Bucket of Bolts: (236.363636-100)/1 = 136.363636 minutes

Great, the calculations agree.

To graph these, go to http://gcalc.net and graph the

two following expressions:

(-2/3)x + 600

(1/4)x + 100

To display, set XMin=-10, XMax=1200, YMin=-10, YMax=700
