Home made cold air intake?

If i install a home made cold air intake without replacing my air filter box, just changing the intake tubing to the box, can i face the tube forward behind the grill of my car, or will that cause water if I'm driving in rain to travel up about the 3 feet of flexible tubing into the engine and hydrolock it? I have a 2004 pontiac vibe if that helps. Basically what i want to do is take the pre-existing tubing that is going to the box and run a tube that goes to the grill facing forward instead so the cooler air travels up into the airbox to the engine. I'm just worried about getting moisture into it. How much water does it take to hydrolock an engine? Any help would be great, Thanks!Home made cold air intake?
drill 3 holes in the box above the air filterHome made cold air intake?
It take a cylinder full of water to hydrolock an engine, if the air cleaner is still in place then most of the water from the rain will stop there, a cold air intake normally draws air from the area of the engine compartment facing down towards the ground then you don't have to worry about water unless the road is flooded and you suck it up into the engine, You would be better just buying one already made, however they are only good for 3-7 Hp more depending on the engine so you won't really notice it anyway.
I really don't know the amount of moisture that'll hdrolock the engine...

What you did to your intake is cool! You might be the future competitor of K%26amp;N or Simota. Kidding aside, your system is OK. Just relocate the tube away from tne front grill. Not only moisture will be your problem but lots of dirt too.
