any suggestions or help would be grateful. thanks How do i get the back tire out of my road bike?
You bought a $700 bike and it has axle nuts???? Unless it's a track bike you got ripped off.How do i get the back tire out of my road bike?
Your bike should have the quick release skewers on it. Check this site out on how to operate them.

If you race, you really should know about bicycle mechanics - Using the correct terms even. You mean the wheel.

It's best to buy a hex nut socket set, so that you don't round off nuts in the future.

Quick release hubs were developed in the 1930's...Considering you paid $700 for a bike 2 years ago, which is good enough to race on, I think you got ripped off with a rubbish wheelset.
Hum...

Rounding a nut is usually a matter of using the wrong size wrench or not getting the wrench on the nut squarely. Is it possible you were using a BES wrench when you needed metric?

Anyhow, rounding a nut is never fun. From least extreme to most extreme, here are the options I'd try.

1. Can you get a correct size socket wrench on the nut? Given that a socket wrench has more landings than an open end wrench, you may be able to get enough of a bite on the nut to get it off.

2. You can try filing or grinding off the rounded corners to get the nut squared up again. Chances are you may need to use an adjustable wrench to get it off. When using an adjustable wrench, be sure to clamp the wrench down on the nut as tightly as you can before attempting to turn the nut.

3. Break out a set of locking pliers (vice-grips.) You'll need to have a tight fit, but be sure you don't crush the nut on the axle.

However you get the nut off, you are going to need to buy a new one. You may want to consider buying some quick release skewers as well.

Hope this helps.
Some one who knows this much about bikes is dangerous. Let me now where you ride so I can avoid those areas please.
If you bought your bike 2 years ago, it should have a quick release lever. If you bought it used, I am sorry to say you probably got ripped off. If you do not have a quick release, use a socket. If the socket will not fit because of the damage you have done to the nut, file it a little bit until it fits.
