What are the best London neighbourhoods to live in for under 850 bp per month?

I'll be moving to London in May 2010 and after reading some online material decided on a budget of around 850 BP per month to rent a studio or 1 bedroom with appliances like washer and oven. Is this realistic? Which neighbourhoods would be the best to live in considering the desirable commute is under/around 30 minutes to heart of business district in city of London. Should also have easy access to grocery shops, bars and above all tube stations. I don't mind changing tube lines but would hate to take a bus and then tube. How much are typical utility bills per month for 2 people? Which websites are best to search for rentals? Also why are all rents quoted per week and not per month? Is that normal? Thanks for your comments in advance! What are the best London neighbourhoods to live in for under 850 bp per month?
Rents may be listed weekly however most are payed on a monthly basis (so don't forget to do your numbers correctly, do NOT just multiply weekly cost by 4 weeks as this will not give you the correct per calender month rent costs. You will need to multiply your weekly listed rent by 52 weeks and then divide by 12 months in a yr to get your per month rental cost)

拢850 is not a low price to pay for a 1 bed flat PMSL that's an average on outer areas of London and is expensive for those of us on average wages!!!.. In slightly cheaper areas where most of us normal people live, you can find a 1 -2 bed flat for 拢700 a month to 拢900 a month! Of course if you want to live in highly desirable areas, your looking at 拢300 a week all the way up to 拢500 a week!!! Areas like Clapham and Chelsea, Fulham, etc have some of the highest costs for rents! Central London of course will always be higher!

I live in Zone 3, am 15 mins by train away from Liverpool street (financial district) AND have access to the underground line as well, getting into Victoria in 20 mins! There are many areas where you can find rents your after as well as bars, restaurants etc. Places like Stratford near the Olympics have very nice posh new flats but they can be expensive, as you can get into town in 20 mins on the tube and the central line (the red one) take you straight into Liverpool street and Chancery Lane (financial districts)

All rentals will list wether furnished or unfurnished, those that are furnished will usually contain *white goods* ie washing machine, oven, fridge etc etc.

Utility bills really do depend on how frugal you are, what tariffs your on and personal usage..

Mine are for a two bed flat with 2 people here:

Gas 拢20 in winter 拢10 summer a month

Water 拢20 a month

Elec 拢30 a month

Council tax 拢109 per month

That's your basics then you have:

Internet

Land line

contents insurance

Mobile phones

These will vary depending on your personal circumstances.

As for where to look, craigslist is not as big here as the USA so I wouldn't really use that, I'd use Gumtree.co.uk OR rightmove.co.uk and get an idea of areas and rent prices.

Hope that helps! Sound like you will find what your after given your 850 budget!

By the way I rent for 拢800 a month and have a lovely large 2 bed flat WITH roof garden and an easy commute into town. Many people like myself find lots of places within our budget! CAN be done! What are the best London neighbourhoods to live in for under 850 bp per month?
Rents are generally per week. And your 850/month budget sounds awfully low for rent, especially to get something big enough for 2 people, not just a bed-sit (room) for one. You might check craigslist.com London listings as well as check online newspapers like the Telegraph and Times (of London).
